(Garland Area – Lewiston, Michigan) Winter, 2008-09 – Cross-country skiing and gourmet cuisine have been a longtime tradition at Garland Resort, a Winter Wonderland. This upcoming season, the Gourmet Glide offers a specialty cross-country experience taking seasoned Nordic skiers and novice weekend skiers through the pined forests at their own pace on immaculately groomed trails. The Gourmet Glide will stop at five trailside feasts - fueling every skier with creative food fare. The stop after leaving the main lodge is at the Hardwax Café. Skiers will find a fountain running with melted milk chocolate – perfect for dipables of every sort, from fresh fruit to rice crispy treats. Skiers will also enjoy an array of imported cheeses, spinach artichoke dip and a northern Michigan smoked fish sampler.
Garland Resort's most famous stop on the trail is the Trout Pond. Here, the whole family will delight in catching their own trout and having it prepared over a fire. After ice fishing, Gliders will take to the trails to enjoy an array of hors d'oevres and venison chili at the Bridge Inn. The final stop will take gliders to a final gourmet station in the largest log lodge east of the Mississippi River. The day will end with a chef-prepared design your own pasta station and a selection of sweet treats, sure to please every pallet.
Garland's Gourmet Glide will kick off the winter season on January 10, making for the perfect post-holiday getaway. The Glide will be offered most Saturdays during the winter season. Additional January Glides include the 17 and 24; in February on7, 14, 21, 27, 28; and on March 7. Free Ski Rentals are available on January 12th and 19th. Gourmet Glide event passes are just $59 per adult, while students can feast for as little as $27. Garland offers unique lodging and recreational opportunities throughout the entire year.
